a Beautiful Hooked Rug ~

"Good Witch"
hooked by Kathy Newman
design adapted by Kris Miller
(www.Spruceridgestudios.com)
from the Folk Art of
Lori Brechlin/Notforgotten Farm
I had the pleasure of meeting Kathy in person
on Saturday, at the VA Rug Fest and saw this rug, among many others..

didn't she do a fantastic job?
Thanks Kathy, for allowing me to share your hooking talent with others!

the stuff of Dreams....

you enter a dark, dusty antiques shop...
on the hunt for whatever finds you first.
there, in the corner...a closed, musty box.
your heart races as you open the top, hoping beyond hope to find a treasure.
a swirl of dust rises through a shaft of light, as you gently, gingerly
reach your hand
down
into
the
dark
interior
of the box...
your shaking fingers come in contact with wood, glass and metal.
you draw in a breath and hold it.
"it is"....
you softly say to yourself.
a box of ancient frames, waiting ....
just waiting.
for you.
as a Needlewoman, Folk Artist and Antiqes collector,
old frames tickle my fancy for sure...
but THESE frames...
frames with hand-carved motifs, gold-gilt liners, and Victorian Metal Filligree...
oh, these frames are destined to become

Theatres of Threade

Wyndows to the Past
Cartouches or Vessels
to hold my most special
Witch Samplers
....to come.....

look for them at the ghoultide gatherings show...

Blessed be, My Friends~

Charming...

Hello my Friends ~
I wanted to share a couple of photos with you...
Below is a CHARMing Necklace and Earring set that I've just finished conjuring up...

Made from all sterling silver and semi-precious stones...
all of my very favorite charms in one place!
(from l to r)
turquoise and sterling bead charm, sheep charm, another turq. charm, crystal with chakra colored beads, skeleton key, Besom (broom), crystal, goat, antique marcastie & sterling star, turq. & bead, and finally, a little sterling cat...
The earrings have sterling balls and black carved shell Crows,
along with turquoise and amethyst beads...
I'll wear these on Special Occasions only...
And Below,
"Lily"
the Little HedgeWitch Bear...
she only stands a scant 6 inches tall, but she is big on charm!
wearing a vintage linen crones' cap, adorned with vintage millinery Lily-of-the-Valley flowers.
around her tiny shoulders hangs a sash made from vintage satin ribbon held in place with a tiny mop button.
Lily is made from German Mohair, wire jointed and stuffed with cotton batt & pellets...her features are hand embroidered...
Who says a Good Witch only comes out in the Autumn?
This little girl will be up for adoption on my ebay auctions this evening.
she promises to be Good Company....
below is a brief discussion of Hedge Witchcraft found on Wikipedia.org
"Hedge witchcraft", or "hedgecraft", is vaguely based on traditional European witchcraft popularized by Rae Beth, Nigel Jackson and a few other authors. It emphasizes solitary working based around nature, as well as shamanic practices and herbalism.
Some practitioners claim to be the continuing of the practices of cunning folk, and wisewomen while others say "hedgecraft" draws from such sources but is a modern tradition, both may be correct.
Most actual practitioners claim that hedgewitches can come from any religious or spiritual back ground, and that simply most hedgewitches choose to base their practice around Wicca. Some main differences between hedgecraft and Wicca is a significant loss of the formality of Wiccan ritual, the lack of initiation in to a Wiccan Coven, and the solitary nature of hedgecraft.
Blessed be, my Friends!
